Ryder worked for Crosley's Flowers in Los Angeles and prepared arrangements for the VIP rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel. He also created floral designs used for set decoration on the TV series Dynasty. He later realized his own company, Pyron Designs, first in Los Angeles and later in San Francisco. Ryder's easygoing personality served him well in both of his careers, as well as in his struggle with illness. In a 1984, Stallion magazine interview, when asked if he thought a lot of men would like to be Lee Ryder, he responded, "'I enjoy being me...I guess I'm happy with Myself."
