Born on in Glenn County, California, Ryder was raised in Laguna Beach and graduated from Esperanza High School in Anaheim.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

His longstanding interest in floral design was put on hold when Mark Reynolds discovered him and featured him in his All American Boys, which although filmed earlier was not released until 1983. Ryder's first major release was Falcon Studio's Huge in 1982. He went on to star in thirteen features between 1982 and 1986.

Ryder's easygoing personality served him well in both of his careers, as well as in his struggle with illness. In a 1984, Stallion magazine interview, when asked if he thought a lot of men would like to be Lee Ryder, he responded, "'I enjoy being me...I guess I'm happy with Myself."[citation needed]
