Michael Ullmer

London-trained chartered accountant Michael Ullmer spent the first half of his career with professional accounting firms in London, the United States and Australia, and the second half in banking, most recently as Deputy Group CEO of National Australia Bank (NAB). Prior to NAB, Ullmer was at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, initially as Group Chief Financial Officer and then Group Executive with responsibility for Institutional and Business Banking. Before that he was a Partner at accounting firms KPMG (1982 to 1992) and Coopers & Lybrand (1992 to 1997).[1] Today, he divides his time between public company directorships and not-for-profit roles in the arts.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors, Ullmer is also a Director of Lendlease and Woolworths Limited, and a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chairman appointment[edit]

Ullmer was appointed to the Board of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in January 2007, and appointed Chairman in October 2015.[2] He serves with Managing Director Sophie Galaise and alongside other board members Andrew Dyer (appointed December 2013), Danny Gorog (February 2014),Margaret Jackson AC (May 2015), Brett Kelly (April 2015), David Krasnostein (August 2014), David Li (July 2013), Helen Silver AO (January 2015) and Hyon-Ju Newman (June 2017)
