Pran Krishna Mukherjee was a late 18th-century Zamindar. He contributed his land to the British Government for building public roads. As a result, the British Government kept his name on a road.

Pran Krishna Mukherjee was also the 31st generation of Sriharsha, the famous Kanyakubja Brahmin who came to Bengal from Kanauj on the official invitation of Adisura.

Through his shrewd politics, Mukherjee controlled the dangerous 18th and 19th century looteras, or land robbers, thus protecting his enormous wealth.
