Varun Pratap Singh Bhakuni

Varun Pratap Singh Bhakuni ( born 6 August 1988 ) is an Indian youth politician[1] and an Advocate at the High Court of Uttarakhand situated in Nainital. He contested for the State Legislative Assembly MLA[2] elections on a BSP ticket[3] from 60,[4] Kaladhungi[5] (Nainital) Uttarakhand Assembly[6] Seat held on 15 February 2017.


Varun is a Youth politician working for the upliftment of the economically backward and weaker sections of the society and an Advocate at the High Court of Uttarakhand situated in Nainital.

An MBA-IB post-graduate with dual specialisation in Marketing and International business from Amity University, Noida, Varun has attended Semester exchange programs at the prestigious Birkbeck College, University of London and Anglia Ruskin University, Singapore. He graduated with BBA from Amity University and has done his schooling from Sherwood College, Nainital and St. Josephs College, Nainital. He pursued LL.B from SSJ Campus, Almora affiliated to Kumaon University.

Varun’s education and diverse corporate experiences (both in India and abroad) give him a good foundation and broad perspective to address the growing challenges of today’s India and its future.

Varun comes from a family with a rich political heritage. His grandfather Late Shri Hayat Singh Bhakuni and Late Smt. Vaijayanti Bhakuni were eminent freedom fighters and laid their lives for the freedom struggle of India. His father Dr. Bhupal Singh Bhakuni has been a political figure since his college days and served as President and Vice-President of students union Kumaon University, Nainital. He contested elections for the State legislative assembly from Nainital constituency in 1996 and 2002 from Bahujan Samaj Party and has ever been involved in the upliftment of Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes, Other backward classes and the weaker sections of the society. He served as "Pradesh Mahasachiv", "Mandal Prabhari" and "District President" for the BSP. The sacrifice and commitment of his previous generations inspired Varun to join politics at the young age of 27 and work for social-welfare.[7]
